Near Venice you can find Burano, a group of four islands in the Venetian Lagoon. It is famous all over the world for its colourful houses and for the lace of Burano. In the centre of the town there is a museum dedicated to this ancient art. The “Lace Museum” is located in Piazza Galuppi in the seat of the ancient “Lace School”, founded in 1872 by Countess Andriana Marcello and closed in 1978.
Since 1995 this museum has been included in the “Musei Civici di Venezia” circuit and every year many tourists visit it. Inside the museum are exposed some of the rarest and most precious Venetian lace. They are real pieces of art made by very good craftsmen. The laces are divided according to the century in which they were created: from the origins to the 16th century, then 17th and 18th century and finally 19th and 20th century.
There is also a room dedicated to the School of Lace and a permanent exhibition on the Burano Prize. If you are curious to find out more about this ancient craft go and visit this museum, you will not regret it. We are waiting for you in Venice with our specialties.
