The Pietra Rossa is a marble slab that is located in the paving of the area of the city called Corte Nova. If you find it, don’t step on it! It’s bad luck! An ancient legend tells that in 1630 a woman named Giovanna, who lived in Sestriere di Castello, had a vision of Virgin Mary. The Madonna told her that, to overcome the plague, she had to paint a picture that represented her with some saints.
Once the painting was done, it was hung in a portico of the Corte Nova. After a short time the plague left the city and no one became ill yet. The miraculous painting disappeared, but a red stone appeared on the ground. La pietra rossa is still there, but everyone takes care not to step on it. Discovering the legends of a city is interesting as discovering the flavours of that land. We will take care of this, come and taste our typical dishes.
