From 22 march Ca’ Vendramin Calergi is hosting the enigmatic creatures of Alice Biba as homage to the glass art and tradition of Murano.
The work Free Men of Alice Biba consists of three full-size mannequins: 180cm per 80kg of coloured glass grit from the isle of Murano. The grit is a poor and waste product, but the artist gives to it a new life. The choice of the material has deep reasons: the glass is a beautiful body, but at the same time it is delicate and fragile. This is the condition of the human being: beautiful and strong because of his vulnerability. The impressive androids are enriched by wrought-iron decorations by Gabriele Vazzoler.
